Chapter 12 - Scope data

Contents

The GoLogic software can control a separate digital storage oscilloscope which runs in single-shot mode. The analog data is download, aligned with the GoLogic trace, and then displayed in the WaveForm window beside the timing diagrams. This permits mixed-signal analysis to be performed inside the GoLogic software.

Connect the scope
If the GoLogic software is not installed on a scope that runs Windows 2000, XP, or Vista then connect the scope to your computer via RS232 cable, GPIB, USB, or to your local network via Ethernet cable.

If an Ethernet cable is used, verify the scope appears on the local area network. The GoLogic software cannot access the scope if Windows Explorer does not list it on the LAN.

If a GPIB cable is used, a National Instruments® GPIB card and National Instruments® drivers must be installed on the computer. Compatible GPIB cards may work, but ScopeLink™ only supports the National Instruments® GPIB drivers.

LeCroy-IBä
ScopeLink™ controls LeCroy® digital storage oscilloscopes using the LeCroy-IBä utility available from LeCroy. The GoLogic software can only control a LeCroy scope if the LeCroy-IB utility is installed and configured properly.

The LeCroy-IB utility maps GPIB commands from the GoLogic software to a LeCroy scope installed on your network. The special "localhost" address can also be entered in the LeCroy-IB utility setup to map GPIB commands to a "virtual" GPIB port inside a scope. This is used when the GoLogic software is installed on the scope itself.

ScopeLink always uses the "DEV1 on GPIB0" connection with LeCroy scopes, so always enter the scope's address in the "Dev1" edit box in the LeCroy-IB utility setup.

TekVISAä
ScopeLink™ controls Tektronix® digital storage oscilloscopes using the latest TekVISAä interface software available on the Tektronix web site. All Tektronix scopes except the TDS300-series support TekVISA. ScopeLink uses a direct GPIB or RS232 connection when a TDS300-series scope is used.

Run and configure TekVISA for the scope before running the GoLogic software. If TekVISA can detect the scope via USB, Ethernet, RS232, GPIB, etc then so can the GoLogic software. If TekVISA cannot find the scope, then neither will ScopeLink.

NCI does not sell or support TekVISA. Contact Tektronix for help with TekVISA and your scope.

Agilent® NI-VISAä
ScopeLink™ controls Agilent® digital storage oscilloscopes using the latest NI-VISAä interface software available on the Agilent web site. All Agilent scopes that ScopeLink supports work with NI-VISA.

Run and configure NI-VISA for the scope before running the GoLogic software. If NI-VISA can detect the scope via USB, Ethernet, RS232, GPIB, etc then so can the GoLogic software. If NI-VISA cannot find the scope, then neither will ScopeLink.

NCI does not sell or support NI-VISA. Contact Agilent for help with NI-VISA and your scope.

ScopeLink™ cable
The ScopeLink cable must be used to synchronize the scope and GoLogic data. When the GoLogic triggers, a rising-edge TTL pulse is broadcast on the GoLogic trigger-out port. The ScopeLink cable carries this pulse to your scope's external trigger input and triggers the scope...

The ScopeLink cable does not perfectly synchronize the scope and GoLogic data. However, all significant skew between the scope and GoLogic data is automatically removed by the GoLogic software when the cope data is downloaded.

ScopeLink™ setup
The "Edit > ScopeLink Wizard..." menu command configures the GoLogic software to control a digital storage oscilloscope. The scope only needs to be configured once. Afterwards, the software automatically starts your scope when the GoLogic starts and downloads the analog signals when the GoLogic data is downloaded.

ScopeLink Wizard

If  the scope is no longer needed, use the "Edit > ScopeLink Wizard..." menu command again and choose the "None (ignore scope)" scope type after the welcome screen...

Viewing scope channels
Chapter 6 - WaveForm window describes how to view scope channels after ScopeLink downloads them into the GoLogic software.
