Chapter 9 - Measurements

Data areas
The GoLogic software has two data areas: trace and reference. Newly acquired data is always downloaded to the trace data area. Once captured data is downloaded to the trace area, it can be saved to a file or copied directly to the reference area...

Using trace and reference together
As the name implies, reference data is compared to the trace data. Differences between the two data areas are displayed in the data windows. For example, the WaveForm window provides an exclusive-or comparison feature…

The WaveForm window also displays reference data beneath the trace data so that differences are easily visible…

The dotted lines in the above example represent the reference data beneath the trace data. The difference between the two data captures is easily visible.

Markers

Marker pairs
Three pairs of moveable markers are provided for making timing measurements...
  • The red/blue marker pair is active by default.
  • The yellow/pink and orange/green markers can be enabled in each data window with the toolbar button.

Each marker can be moved anywhere on the open data. Clicking the left mouse button moves the first marker in the pair. Clicking the right mouse button moves the second marker in the pair.

Linked markers (WaveForm only)
When the markers are linked in the WaveForm window, clicking either mouse button moves both markers together at a fixed distance apart. The fixed distance is set when the link-markers option is enabled. All three marker pairs are linked at the same time.

Linked markers are useful when making comparisons between edges. You should place the markers on edges which use a known distance, link the markers, then click on other edges to verify the distances are the same.

Timing measurements

The WaveForm window displays the time between each marker pair above the data area.

The Numeric window displays the time between each marker pair left of the data area.

Finally, PlugIns will show the time between the marker pairs where possible...

Bookmarks
The "Search > Add bookmark…" menu command and the F4 key places a bookmark in the data.

Bookmarks

Each bookmark and its comment are saved in the project files. Bookmarks allow notes to be placed in the data for later review or shared with others.

Bookmarks can be placed at any marker's location, and the data's start or end. Bookmark commentary can be up to 65K characters long.

Bookmarks are useful placeholders while analyzing the data. You can quickly scroll to a bookmark by clicking on the yellow icons in the data scroll bars.

Hovering the mouse over a bookmark's icon displays the first few dozen characters of the commentary for quick review…
